The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) at IIT Dharwad is dedicated to advancing fundamental understanding and innovation in disease biology and molecular medicine. The department brings together researchers from diverse backgrounds to address pressing challenges in disease mechanism, diagnostics and therapeutics through interdisciplinary research and education. We study disease biology across scales ranging from molecular to organismal level. The department fosters a seamless integration of basic research with translational approaches. 

Our programs emphasize strong foundations in molecular and cellular biology along with interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches, preparing students to tackle complex biological problems using modern experimental and computational tools. In addition, we offer comprehensive entrepreneurship support through the BioNEST startup incubator located on campus.

With a focus on both basic science and translational research, BSBE aims to generate new knowledge, develop innovative technologies, and train the next generation of scientists who can contribute to academia, industry, and society.
