PHD 

The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) at IIT DHARWAD offers a dynamic Doctoral program in diverse areas of biological sciences and bioengineering, including Cell and Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Bioinformatics and Structural Biology, Neurosciences, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, and Cardiometabolic Disorders. Research activities at the department are currently funded by DBT, ANRF, ICMR, DBT-Wellcome Trust India Alliance, Lady Tata Memorial Trust and CSIR.

Admissions to the PhD program take place twice annually, through a rigorous selection process that may include in-person interviews. Selected students complete relevant coursework and a comprehensive examination to prepare for independent research.

Through the BioNEST startup incubator, the department actively provides guidance and support to promote student entrepreneurship.

BSBE encourages applications from passionate researchers who have secured PhD fellowships from agencies such as CSIR, DBT, DST, ICMR, etc. The department also offers funding for doctoral studies through teaching assistantships.
